MOG Program & Education Director
Job Description
The Museums Mission: The Mission of the Childrens Museum of the North Bay is to nurture creativity, ignite imagination, and cultivate curiosity through hands-on exploration.
Summary Description: The Director of Programs and Education reports to the Museum's Executive Director and is responsible for creating, leading and implementing programs that embody the mission of the Museum and attract and serve a large and increasingly diverse audience of children, families, caregivers, schools and educators in and around Sonora County.
Major Responsibilities
Provide leadership and overall programmatic vision for visitor, school and group programs in order to ensure an outstanding visitor experience, to foster strong partnerships with schools, and to generate program income for the Museum.
Develop programs for the MOG, working collaboratively with other departments and committees to provide integrated and cohesive learning.
Establish and enhance partnerships and relationships with a wide range of community organizations, including educational institutions (i.e. Ocean Discovery, Spring Lake Nature Center), the Junior League of Napa Sonoma, community advisers, park partners, environmental and cultural institutions.
Provide procedures and standards for systematic evaluation.
Coordinate and train necessary volunteers for Museum on the Go visits to educational institutions.
Schedule, coordinate, and attend majority of MOG visits to educational institutions and as many as possible public events.
Provide support as needed to other Board committees and task forces.
Represent the institution in external affairs and serve as a spokesperson for the Museum, as needed.
Continue personal professional development, including contributing to the field by participating in appropriate museum and educational organizations.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Willingness to work with start up Museum.
Experience in museum or closely related field.
Likes to work independently.
Demonstrated experience in program development and execution and budget management.
Knowledge of and experience with developmental stages and learning needs of children and families.
Ability to recruit, supervise, motivate and manage a diverse group of people mostly volunteers.
Excellent writing, editing, conceptual, and oral communication skills.
Excellent organization skills with emphasis on details.
Weekend work required.
Flexible, good-humored, team player.
Experience with Filemaker, Word, and Excel a plus.
Time Requirements: The Program and Education Director position requires, on average, approximately 20 hours per week and is a paid position. Time and pay are likely to increase as program grows larger.
